The Importance of Regular Mowing For a Healthy Lawn

  • Consistent grass blade height throughout the entire lawn area means nutrient absorption will be consistent across all areas.
  • To avoid stressing your lawn, you should not mow more than one-third of the lawn's leaf height at a time. Mowing off more than this can cause your lawn to go into shock.
  • Mowing is easier when the grass blades aren’t too long.
  • Use the lawn mower mulcher function to return the nutrients back to your lawn. If you are taking a large amount off your lawn or it’s wet grass, then use a catcher for lawn clippings and grass clippings.

How to Mow Your Lawn Effectively for Your Turf Variety

Mowing your Sir Walter Buffalo lawn properly

During the fast-growing months of September to May, we recommend mowing every 7–14 days. During the slower-growing months of May to August, you may not need to mow at all. Sir Walter requires a mower with sharp blades to cut the grass, and it should always be maintained at about 40mm. Dull blades tear the grass plants, leaving them brown and rough-ended which will affect the overall look of your lawn.

  • Mow every 7–14 days from September to May
  • Mow only as needed from May to August
  • Sir Walter DNA Certified grass plants should be maintained at the height of 40mm

Mowing your Tif Tuf lawn

Tif Tuf is a low-profile grass that enjoys frequent mowing when it is in full growing season. During the fast-growing months of September to May, we recommend mowing every 4–7 days, and during the slower-growing months of May to August, you may only need to mow every 14 days.

Plant growth regulators can be applied to slow the growth by 50% of TifTuf during the growing season.

  • Mow every 4–7 days from September to May
  • Mow every 14 days from May to August
  • TifTuf should be maintained at the height of 25mm

Lawn care tips for Eureka Premium lawn

Eureka Premium is a very active growing grass, fantastic for self-repairing and high traffic areas. However, since it tends to be a thicker lawn with taller grass, it will require frequent mowing. So make sure your lawn mower has sharp blades — dull mower blades will harm your mowing pattern. From September to May we recommend mowing every 7 days, and during the slower-growing months of May to August, you may only need to mow every 14 days.

Eureka Premium has more growing activity during the cooler months than our other grasses, so it is important to keep an eye on it and mow regularly to make sure you don’t take too much off at a time.

  • Mow every 7 days from September to May
  • Start mowing every 14 days from May to August
  • Eureka Premium Kikuyu VG should be maintained at the height of 30mm

Mowing for Sir Grange lawn

Sir Grange is a tough lawn and is the slowest growing of all our varieties. Therefore, it requires the least amount of mowing. From September to May we recommend mowing every 14–30 days, and during the slower-growing months of May to August, you may not need to mow at all.

  • Mowing frequency every 14–30 days from September to May
  • Mow only if needed from May to August
  • Sir Grange should be maintained at the height of 20-40mm
