Yes, all of the lawn varieties which we sell here at Lilydale Instant Lawn are summer grasses, meaning they are drought tolerant and tough. Summer grasses are most active during the warmer months between September and May in Victoria. Summer grasses will go dormant during the cooler months and if you suffer from a severe frost you may experience some colour loss.
The good news is as soon as the warmer weather returns your grass will self-repair retain back its beautiful green, we recommend fertilising going into Winter and the start of Spring to assist in dormancy. If you also see wear in your grass during the cooler months we recommend to reduce traffic until Spring.

Can I still install my turf during Winter?
Yes you can! We grow and harvest all of our premium turf varieties year round.
However, when choosing to lay your lawn in the Autumn/Winter months we strongly advise to purchase with your turf the Super Starter Pack.
When you purchase turf from us during these months we will provide you with appropriate installation instructions to ensure that your lawn has the best chance of establishment throughout the cooler months.
Can I install my turf during Summer?
Yes!! All our Instant Lawn can be laid over the summer period.
Summer is a fantastic time to install Instant Lawn, with the warmer weather Instant Lawn establishes quicker meaning you won't need to keep traffic off the area as long as during the cooler months.
It is vital that your Lilydale Instant Lawn is kept moist with regular daily watering until root growth is established approx 3 to 6 weeks depending on the season.
As our exclusive QWELTS are cut thick, their is no need to top dress with sand but if you choose to you can apply white washed sand to the edges of your QWELT pieces with the measurement of white washed sand (1/2m3 per 100m2).
Sand adds weight to the turf, improving root to soil contact, it also stops the edges from drying out too much.
