If you are uncertain as to
what type of lawn will best suit your situation, read the
following brief descriptions of our lawns.
SHADED LAWN
If you have a shaded area that is not too damp, or if you
have large trees, then you require our Sir
Walter Buffalo Lawn which is the most shade resistant
turf we sell. Sir Walter is a new variety of Buffalo. It
is unlike the old "scratchy" lawn, it has a soft
leaf which when you walk on, it appears spongy.
LOTS OF SUN
If your lawn area gets quite a bit of sun, then you have a
choice of the following Tall
Fescue, Sir
Walter Buffalo, Santa
Ana Couch or Kikuyu.
You will need to read on to determine which variety would
best suit your requirements.
JUST FOR LOOKS
If you require a lawn just for looks, then Tall
Fescue is the lawn for you if you like a thick lush
lawn. Alternatively Santa
Ana Couch which is a fine creeping type lawn, but
Santa Ana will go dormant over the winter period. Both of
these types of turf prefer a sunny position and can
tolerate a fair amount of traffic.
KIDS PLAY AREA
If this is an area for your children to play in then we
suggest the Sir
Walter Buffalo Lawn, which is quite soft, and being a
creeping lawn, repairs itself if the children happen to
damage any areas. Unlike Kikuyu
it only creeps over the surface, therefore is easy to keep
out of your garden beds. Kikuyu
may be another option though purely for its aggression.
DIGGING DOG
If your dog has already destroyed what lawn you have or
you know they are likely to dig, then we would suggest the
Kikuyu.
(Sunny areas only) This is a fast growing aggressive lawn.
It will get into garden beds if not contained. However, it
grows very quickly and therefore will repair itself fairly
quickly. Do keep in mind that the lawn will need to
establish before you can let you're dog loose on the lawn.
This lawn will go dormant over the winter period.
HEAVY TRAFFIC AREA
If you have a moderately heavy traffic area then the Sir
Walter Buffalo lawn should meet your needs otherwise
for extreme traffic use the Kikuyu
(sunny areas only).
LOW MAINTENANCE
If you require a lawn that requires very little mowing and
watering then
Sir Walter Buffalo is your lawn. It is drought
resistant, and quite slow growing, depending on the amount
of water and fertilizer used it will probably need mowing
every two to three weeks in summer and hardly in winter.
If for some reason it was left without being mown for over
a month during the growing period, it can be cut back
harshly and it will recover in a couple of weeks, although
this is not recommended.
