Oz Tuff details

Oz Tuff couch is a vibrant dark emerald green colour. It is a drought tolerant turf, which recovers quickly after stressful periods. Its extensive deep root system is a strong advantage in our ever changing climate.

Climate

Oz Tuff Couch is a warm season grass. During winter Oz Tuff will be dormant (cease growing), and it will discolour. This discolouring can be overcome by oversewing with Fine Fescue or Ryegrass seed through the winter months. The seed will provide good winter colour and wear. Alternatively you can use a protective colour coating, this will give the appearance of green through the Winter months as well as provide some frost protection. Please contact Lilydale Instant Lawn for further information.
IMPORANT: Once spring commences, please ensure that you cut your Fine Fescue & Ryegrass short, therefore it will not shade your Oz Tuff and prevent it from growing.

Maintenance

Oz Tuff is prostate growth pattern requires less mowing & its superior strength is great for high traffic areas.

Once your lawn has been installed for 1 - 2 years it can become thick and spongy and will need dethatching. This can be done using a dethatching machine (which can be hired), or simply put your mower on a lower setting. For best results this should be done in spring. Once you have dethatched give it a good fertilise and water.

Watering

Once your Oz Tuff lawn is established it requires less water than some other varieties. We recommend to water the turf deeply and for longer periods rather than giving it frequent light sprinkles.

When purchasing our Oz Tuff you are supplied with a Low Water Establishment Pack, which includes organic water saver, water crystals, fertiliser & seasol. This assists the Oz Tuff in its initial establishment stage in relation to water penetration & helps retain moisture.

Fertilising

We recommend to fertilise your Oz Tuff every 10 -12 weeks. Fertilising is not recommended over the winter period when the turf is dormant. We offer a 10kg bucket of Sir Walter Fertiliser for $50.00 this will cover approximately 400 square metres. Free delivery of our Sir Walter Fertliser is offered to selected metroploitan suburbs.

Preparation and Care for Oz Tuff

Soil Preparation

To prepare the area for your Oz Tuff lawn you need to have a smooth base free of any grass matter. If you have topsoil of suitable quality and depth of at least 75mm or more, all you need do is remove all grass and debris on the site. If your depth of topsoil is inadequate you may need to import some blended soil mix. Allow about 20mm below paths and driveways for the thickness of the turf.

Turf Laying

Apply the organic water saver, water crystals & fertiliser provided and begin laying your turf.
Start laying the turf along a straight edge, such as a driveway or footpath, furthest from the stack of turf. Therefore it won't be necessary to walk over any freshly laid lawn. The rolls should be laid in a brickwork pattern, ensuring all edges are butted and pushed together but not overlapping. The turf can be trimmed with a sharp knife to conform with paths and garden edges, etc.

Watering

It is essential that watering of your Oz Tuff lawn commence immediately upon installation. A thorough soaking of the turf is required. For larger installations, watering should commence as sections are completed. It is vital that the turf is kept moist until root growth is established. This can be checked by lifting a small corner of a roll, to ensure that water has thoroughly soaked the turf and sub soil. Once root growth has commenced, watering can begin to be spaced.

Fertilising

We recommend too fertilise your Oz Tuff Couch every 10 -12 weeks. Fertilising is not recommended over the winter period when the turf is dormant. We offer a 10kg bucket of Sir Walter for $50.00 this will cover approximately 400 square metres. Free delivery of our Sir Walter Fertliser is offered to selected metropolitan suburbs

Mowing

The first mow of your Oz Tuff lawn can be undertaken as required. We recommend you take 1/3 leaf blade off with every mow. During the warmer times mowing may be necessary every week, however this will vary depending on how much you water, fertilise, and the weather conditions. Oz Tuff can be mown between 18 - 25mm in the warmer months, but the lower you mow your lawn the more often you will need to mow as you need consistency when mowing low. During cooler months Oz Tuff requires little or no mowing, we recommend to raise the mowing height to 25 - 30mm.
